So, it's a bit early in the day, but heck maybe the west coasters will see this later. Let's talk money and running seattlejs

.seattlejs has grown. Holy hell has it grown. We expect a bare minimum of 150 people to show up to every event. Frequently it's 200+.

We have hit the point where we are limited on venues in town that can hold us. I consider this mostly a good problem to have. We love y'all.
-
…in reply to @jefflembeck
But, when we started this, we made it a point to provide food/drinks for everybody. This is huge. We want people to come out during dinner.
-
…in reply to @jefflembeck
We know that for a lot of people (heck, me included) this is one of the rare nights per month that you get out of the house.
-
…in reply to @jefflembeck
So we provide food, drink, and great speakers for ya. We do the best we can to cater to needs and we want you to learn and have fun.
-
…in reply to @jefflembeck
And this is where we hit a point. Straight up. It costs north of $10/person to run this. This is WITH a donated venue.
-
…in reply to @jefflembeck
We struggle to come up with this cash. Make no mistake. We bang on doors and cold email and do the best we can to pull it together.
-
…in reply to @jefflembeck
Sometimes, like last night, we have a gracious host who saves us at the last second when somebody drops sponsorship. <3 to them. Much <3.
-
…in reply to @jefflembeck
But this is not sustainable. We need something consistent. We need incoming money so we don't have to do this month after month.
-
…in reply to @jefflembeck
So this is where we need your help. Please. We need someone to be a consistent sponsor. We need companies who want to be in front of JS devs
-
…in reply to @jefflembeck
And I understand ROI, but I also know how much you pay a recruiter for one dev. You could likely sponsor us for the year for that.
-
…in reply to @jefflembeck
One-off sponsorships don't do much for our sponsors wrt hiring. It extends good will toward the company, but you don't develop a rapport.
-
…in reply to @jefflembeck
You know and understand developers. We get a _lot_ of cold emails. We got where we know people and know the environment. Come be part of us.
-
…in reply to @jefflembeck
So, attendees. Please talk to your marketing and your recruiters. We need you. We don't want to have to change how we do things.
-
…in reply to @jefflembeck
We don't want to have to dramatically limit the size and we don't want to have to charge per head. We don't want to put that cap on learning
-
…in reply to @jefflembeck
Anyway, thanks for this. If you can help, I'd love for you to work with us.
