A remarkable amount of engineers not knowing how the business determines the success of the team. A remarkable amount of arbitrary “velocity” measurement that has no outward effect on anything the business would care about

A strong mixture of internal tools teams not understanding their impact and how one would think about it mixed with “we close tickets” product teams who don’t understand priority mixed with “uptime” without cost factored in mixed with managers who fell flat into McNamara fallacy

Let’s face it, if the purpose of a system is what it does, then we software eng teams are in the business of making sure yacht billionaire investors can get another yacht. It gets super real the second you realize that if you aren’t contributing to that goal, you’re fucked
