One of my takes that I get wrapped up in because tweets are inherently bad for nuanced discourse is “coding is not the hard part” It is also not easy. Coding is a skill that you can definitely learn and it takes time and regular practice to get good at it. techgirl1908/1361470458101723138

You have to push yourself in new and different ways regularly and keeping up with some level of expertise takes effort! Consistent effort!

What I’m always _trying_ to say is that once you’ve learned to code and are good at it, then there are a gigantic stack of new skills you have to learn to be a consistent and excellent engineer.

I’ve worked at a place where every engineer there has their ticket punched forever because of the famously high caliber. That place bombed because of a total lack of product direction and understanding of the business needs

So I’m amending my statement: “Coding is not the only hard part and unless you learn some of the other aspects of engineering software that come with seniority and time, then you’ll hit a wall where you’ll talk all day about ‘beautiful code’ at companies that fail over and over”
