          1. So, a fun game to play when you're awake and thinking about these things is "Why?" and what if the reason is the same reason as the actual marshmallow test?           And, just what if, a piece of those who don't fail, are incentivized to make sure everybody else does? What if this hellscape is a known, acknowledged, and agreed upon side-effect of the guarantee that some will always have way more than they'd ever need?

        What if they then used these situations as self-fulfilling evidence of why they deserve what they have? What if they pointed to each person and said "You don't have the willpower or the intelligence or the strength or the resilience" and made it all seem like a natural gift?

      What if they found a way to take that group who failed and turned them against one another while they continued to guarantee that their children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren will forever succeed?
